The detail

Escape to the coast and live the high life at this stunning manor house in Western Scotland. With substantial living areas and eleven spacious bedrooms, it is the ultimate retreat for all of the family. Relax in the sitting room or feast in the dining room, before heading out to explore the sprawling gardens. With a games room, treehouse and open-air hot tub, there is something for everyone at this grand mansion.

Balvonie House is located on the outskirts of Skelmorlie village and is just 45 minutes from the city of Glasgow. Sitting on top of a lush hillside, it has spectacular views of town, sea and country. Mature trees and manicured lawns roll down to the seafront where pretty villages meet the sparkling waters.

The house itself is a timeless masterpiece that blends traditional features with designer additions. Massive rooms and high ceilings create a real sense of grandeur and are joined by bay windows, original fireplaces and dark-wood, beamed ceilings. Its interior décor is effortlessly stylish and has a luxurious edge with a chic, vintage finish.

The living areas are a sophisticated affair and include a large entrance hall, sitting room and formal dining room. With thick floorboards, wood burners and super-soft furnishings, they are cosy places to sit back and relax in. A light-filled kitchen is also great for entertaining and has beautiful views out over the landscape. With quality touches and state of the art mod cons it is well-equipped for those evening banquets.

Across the two floors there are also eleven magnificent bedrooms that sleep up to 26 people in total. Mixing artistic prints, colour themes and modern en-suites, each of the rooms offers something different. The eleven rooms include seven en-suites with nine twin/doubles, one bunk room and a family room for four. The largest of the doubles also has an additional trundle bed that is perfect for resting two little heads. Choose from an emperor bed or a four poster double or the en-suite room with a sea-view bath tub. With thick mattresses and the finest bedding, they are sumptuous places to recharge your batteries.

If you want to head out amongst the local area then there are plenty of incredible rural scenes waiting to be discovered. Quaint coastal villages line the seafront and are joined by rolling fields and flourishing hillsides. Head into Skelmorlie and to the tranquil Wemyss Bay to find an unrivalled backdrop for your peaceful stay. The pretty Isle of Bute is also just across the water and is an unspoilt haven with a rich, natural habitat.
