There are great design features throughout, from the stone around the windows and doors, to the wonderful tiles in the bathrooms and on the staircases.

There are many options to choose from in terms of accommodation, with a double rooms, triple rooms, or a studio sleeping up to four people all on offer. Each room is air-conditioned, has a flat-screen TV and there is WiFi throughout. There is also a private bathroom in each with a shower, toiletries and a hairdryer. Some rooms also have a terrace or balcony looking over the stunning architecture of the town.

A delicious breakfast with Italian coffee and pastries is served each morning either in the dining area or in the room and for those who want to relax even further there are massage facilities on site.

Ragusa Ibla itself is a wondrous labyrinth of narrow and charming streets weaving through piazzas. The Duomo di San Giorgio cathedral with its neoclassical dome and stain-glassed windows is just a five-minute walk from Sabbanirica. For history lovers who want to go a little further afield the glorious palace of Castello di Donnafugata is 11 miles south-west of Ragusa.

In Ragusa itself there are a number of restaurants, cafes and bars within walking distance of the guest house, although for those food and drink lovers who really want to splash out there are a couple of gems to explore. I Banchi is an eatery with a bakery and specialist deli counter run by Michelin-star chef Ciccio Sultano. Or there is Ristorante Duomo, which again is close to the property, and is widely regarded as one of Sicily's best restaurants.

For those that love the sea the beaches of Marina di Ragusa are only a 30-minute drive away.
