The detail

Fogo Island is located off the Northeast coast of Newfoundland, Canada. It is the largest of the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador. The settlements were founded by Irish immigrants in the 18th Century, with fishing and boat building being the main industries. Now, it consists of a collective of 11 communities. The area offers absolutely stunning scenery and a truly unique vacation experience. As those at Fogo Island Inn put it, it is an experience for ‘body and soul’ and a place where you can find yourself.

The Inn has been a labour of love and creativity for those involved in developing it. It brings together contemporary artists, designers and architects – as well as artisans, fisherman and geologists. The hotel uniquely combines a contemporary modern look, whilst holding on to the island’s past. Every detail of Fogo Island Inn has been thoughtfully designed.

The building is a stunning X-shaped property which stands proudly among the ancient rocks of the Black Western Shore. Perched on stilts and built with rough contours and sharp angles, this modern building looks stunning among the rugged landscape. Never-ending views across the horizon add to the feeling of peaceful remoteness and those who find their way to Fogo Island will be blown away by the untouched wilderness and the vast, impressive natural surroundings.

The 29 guest suites each have their own style, with playful colours and striking patterns, ensuring that this stay will feel nothing like a stay in a typical hotel. The public spaces – a library, an art gallery, a spacious lounge, a cinema and the stylish lobby – are perfect places for socialising with new found friends, or for finding your own inner peace. The rooftop sauna and outdoor hot tub are perfect for relaxing in.

There is an exceptional restaurant, which has floor-to-ceiling glass windows, granting you constant access to the remarkable views, and serves the most delicious, traditional Newfoundland food. The hotel even established the Fogo Island Agricultural Co-op to supply the restaurant.

This hotel wants you to immerse yourself in the community and understand the landscape. To help here there is a personal Inn driver service for arrival departure/travel around the island as well as bicycles available for independent exploration. If required, storm weather gear and rubber boots are available, as well as binoculars being provided in each suite. Each guests gets a complimentary half-day orientation with one of the islands community hosts.

For an amazingly serene, unique vacation experience surrounded by extraordinary natural scenery look no further.
